Portable Vision began as a discussion at our kitchen table. Matt and his family were visiting for dinner. The conversation turned to brainstorming ideas for youth mentoring. I began to describe an idea that had been bouncing around in my head for a couple of weeks. Young artists have a lot of opportunity to make art, but have very little opportunity to display their art. The big idea was to match up young artists with experienced artists and together we would assemble a high quality gallery show. Matt immediately saw the potential for combining this with the YFC model of intersecting stories. The idea gradually emerged into clarity during the following year and in 2006 we held our first show.

What a great experience! A solid crowd turned out to see the incredible new art. The young artists were beaming with pride as their work was treated with great dignity. We all shared a bit of our unique stories with the crowd and through it all God was honored. The program was such tremendous fun that we decided to continue. We currently present two shows every year, in the spring and again in the fall.
