Developing An Artist Statement
Introduction
• Name, age, school (or where you live)
• Name of your mentor
• Which pieces are yours (quickly describe piece, and mention the medium)

Nuts And Bolts
• Share BRIEF aspects of the portion of YOUR STORY which inspired this artwork (example: a particular experience you had, a feeling you felt, your personality
• your personal set of beliefs, a harmful or healthy relationship you have had, etc.)
• Why did you choose the images you did?
• Why did you choose the media you did?

Closing
• Share something SPECIFIC you gained from the art mentoring process. Do not say I really benefited from getting to hear everyone’s life story. DO SHARE A SPECIFIC. (example: As a result of hearing Sue’s life story, I have become more sensitive to the feelings of those around me who have had problems with illness. Or I benefited from having the opportunity to pray out loud in a group setting for the first time).
• Thank some people: your mentor?, your parents?, YFC?, God?

When completed put your artist statement into the text of an email and send it to
