1. Finish your art - have the artwork ready to present eg: framed, on a sculpture stand, or otherwise ready to display. Be conscious of how your work will sit in the gallery space.
2. Write an artist statement.
3. Title card information.
4. Invite people to attend the opening reception by handing out postcards.
5. Artist Talks - be prepared to talk about your art and your story for about 1 minute. You do not have to share every detail and you will not have time to do so. The idea is to give the audience a little glimpse into why you made your art. Use your artist statement as a guide.
6. Dress nicely - treat the event with dignity and respect.
